Rotary Monmouth are organising a Street Collection on Monnow Street on Saturday 24 February which will be the 2nd Anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Thanks to local generosity over that time your local club has sent five generators to allow normal life to continue in schools and hospitals, as well as a particularly large one which was very generously donated by someone who wished to remain anonymous. It was recently confirmed this most recent generator had been set-up in the cellar of a school there so students can still learn in light and safety.

Rotary Hereford Elgar have during this time sent 31 separate articulated lorries and 13 ambulances and in this respect readers of The Beacon, other residents and visitors to Monmouth have to date effectively contributed the generators as well as giving £500 towards the costs of transportation.

In thanking everyone for their generosity so far, it is hoped it will be repeated on the 24th in President Zelenskyy’s often repeated ‘defence of Europe’.”
