Three members of Ross & District Cycling Club rode the longest race of the season, the Welsh Championship 12 hour Time Trial, on Sunday August 31st.

This race is based mainly in the Abergavenny-Usk-Raglan area, after an opening leg which goes from Abergavenny to Hereford and back.

After a damp start, the first rider set off just after 6 am. Then the day dried up and with little breeze for most of the time conditions were quite pleasant. The younger Ross riders improved on their previous best rides with Hefin Jones whose best distance was 232.719 miles adding another 10 miles taking it up to 242.582.

Paul Stephens covered 232.327 miles, which was 4 miles better than before, while the third Ross member, Dennis Beard, aged 77, and the oldest rider in the race, was disappointed that his ride of 191.737 miles was just over two miles less than his best,

The shock of the day was the winner, Andrew Bason of the Wrekinsport Cycling Club, riding his first 12 hour time trial. He covered 283.577 miles and beat the existing Welsh record.
