A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a cyclist from Ross died following a collision with a van near Monmouth. Jeremy Paul Bevan, 44, of Ross was riding his bicycle on the Northbound carriageway of the A40, when it was involved in a collision with the white Ford Escort van at 6.20pm. Mr Beavan's injuries were immediately identified as serious and he was taken to Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny on Monday but was pronounced dead on arrival. The arrested man, who was the driver of the van and from the Ledbury area, has been bailed pending further enquiries. The crash happened at around 6.20 pm on the A40 near the Dixton roundabout and involved a white Ford escort van. Police closed both directions of the road, approximately half-a-mile north of the Dixton roundabout, for an hour. The north bound carriageway was closed for almost six hours in total while the police collision investigation unit cleared and inspected the scene. The road reopened shortly after midnight.
