THE Ladies' Friendly Season has come to a close and the ladies finished with a flourish of good form.
The team won 3-1 away at Newport with Sylvia Curphey/Joan Morgan, Dawn Cumbley/Sally Ward and Olly Betteridge/ Georgie Jarrett as the winning pairs.
The match was played in typical autumn weather of sunshine and showers but the hospitality of the hosts more than compensated for the lack of fine weather. In August, the team lost 1-3 away at Monmouth with Dawn Cumbley/Gale Phillipps being the only winning pair for The Rolls. However, the week before the team enjoyed an excellent 4-0 home win against Hereford; the visiting ladies found The Rolls course long and the greens fast. The winning pairs were Ann Wigmore/Olly Betteridge, Dawn Cumbley/Joan Wills, Georgie Jarrett/Gale Phillipps and Sylvia Curphey Gill Drayton.
Joan Morgan won The August Running Stableford Competition with 38 points, a 4 point winning margin from Georgie Jarrett who as runner up had 34 points. The Loving Spoon Greensome Foursomes Competition for husbands and wives was played on Bank Holiday Sunday and was won by Ivan and Jenny Perry on 40 points, David and Marian Moffatt were runners up on 38 points. The September Medal was won by Jenny Perry who returned a score of 103-23-80; Gill Drayton was runner up on 104-23-81.
An "in form" Dawn Cumbley won The Founders Cup, a stableford competition for men and ladies. Dawn scored an impressive 46 points leaving the men trailing a long way behind. The best score from the men was posted by Steve Morris and Owen Thirkettle who both had 34 points; as Steve had a better back nine than Owen he took second place with Owen third.
Marian Moffatt won the Pat Armitage Rose Bowl, the last main stableford competition of the season, with 35 points; Olly Betteridge was runner up on 34 points.
