Saturday saw Wyesham Wanderers face Rockfield for the third time this year in their last home game of the season.

After having their home changing rooms vandalised a couple of days after these teams last meet, a complaint from Rockfield meant that Wyesham were forced to play on Monmouth Town's pitch.

The game started slowly for both teams with the surprisingly warm weather looking set to influence the match at some point. An unfamiliar Wanderer's team had the better of the early chances with both Garon Powell and Dave Cox sending their efforts over the bar.

However, it was Rockfield who took the lead when, in the 27th minute, Lewis fired in from the edge of the area. With the first goal the game became stretched and chances missed at both ends.

Wanderers then paid the price for not marking tightly enough when Lewis broke through to grab his second. Wanderers were then unlucky not to score when Sam Hamley's long range effort was gathered at the second attempt by the Rockfield keeper.

With only minutes remaining in the first half Lewis neatly grabbed his hat trick to stretch Rockfield's lead to three.

The second half started and simple mistakes from Wyesham meant that Rockfield grabbed a fourth when a through ball was scrambled into an empty Wanderers goal.

Four nil down and another tactical change finally kick started Wyesham into action. Keeping the ball well, Wyesham started to pressurise Rockfield at the back and took charge of the game.

Wyesham`s James Brown became more of a threat, cutting in from the left to cause havoc amongst the defence, and set up Wyesham`s first goal, powered in by Garon Powell.

With 18 minutes remaining James Brown's solo effort brought more confidence to the Wanderers and brought them back in the game. Wyesham were then unlucky not to score a third when James Meredith's free kick came crashing back off the cross bar.

With Wanderers looking more and more likely to score, Brown was pushed up front and almost grabbed his second with his long range effort just sailing wide.

Wyesham`s Dave Cox said "We had a good go in the second half but Lewis did the damage in the first, Alan Powell was outstanding in defence today and really it was down to those two players that won them the game.

"Still, we had both our centre backs out, both our strikers out and two of our players played with injuries. The boys who came in gave their best and the game could have gone either way."
