A huge reunion took place recently for members of a family related, by marriage to, or blood descendants of, John and Sarah Roberts (nee Price). The party was organised by Martha Colman, who lives in a house called 'Grosmont' in Ross. John Roberts was born at Grosmont in 1853 and farmed at Much Fawley, Trewen, Llangrove, Herefordshire and Edgehill, Warwickshire, before finally moving to Day House Farm, Tidenham, near Chepstow, where he died at the age of 94. The name of Roberts has been regarded as a worthy one in Herefordshire farming circles for well over 200 years and on Saturday, June 23rd, 170 family members from several parts of Britain travelled to Dulas Court, Ewyas Harold, thanks to Phillip and Kathleen Keene, where they enjoyed a happy occasion. Mr Keene had also invited members of his own immediate family to celebrate his 60th birthday, including members of the Rose family. The name John Roberts has been used in the family down the centuries. At this reunion the oldest John Roberts attending was John Roberts of Madley, age 85, grandson of the original John Roberts. The youngest bearing the same name was John Roberts, aged 4, one of the twin sons of Andrew and Eleanor Roberts. The oldest among those attending were Hedley Ware, age 95, and Mary Roberts, age 93, of Uphampton, Leominster. Some of the Roberts/Price descendants are still living in the parish of Ewyas Harold, with the surnames of Michael and Duggan, and in the parish of Clehonger, with the surnames of Honey and Stroud. The gravestones of John's parents, John and Lucy Roberts, who farmed at Little Birches, Grosmont, are in the Churchyard of Grosmont Parish Church. Members of this large family often visit the graves in Grosmont, which is known as one of the most beautiful villages of the area. Martha's house was built by her Great Uncle, George Johns, who married Elizabeth Roberts, her Grandfather John Roberts' sister. Descendants of John Roberts' other sister, Charlotte Roberts, who married John Hodges, had also travelled to the reunion from Gloucestershire, Llandrindod Wells and Fishguard.
