Roadchef’s Magor Motorway Service Area (MSA) has celebrated two remarkable milestones, as Nick Palmizi marks 45 years and Rebecca (Becky) Gray 30 years with the business, a combined 75 years of dedication. Tim Gittins, Chief Executive Officer at Roadchef, presented both with long service awards in recognition of their outstanding contribution and commitment.
Nick’s journey in the motorway services industry began in 1980 at Leigh Delamere Services, working in the Burger Express. At this time, the world looked very different: Margaret Thatcher had been Prime Minister for just a year, the first Rubik’s Cube craze had taken over the globe, and the Sony Walkman was changing the way people listened to music. Over the years, Nick has worked across several sites, from Magor to Bolton and Bridgewater. Along the way, he’s seen the business evolve through major ownership changes: from Granada to First Motorway Services and, ultimately, to Roadchef in 2011.
Since joining Magor, Nick has become an integral part of the site’s story, overseeing countless builds and refurbishments. Known affectionately as “The Key Master,” he carries a legendary set of 30 keys, and knows exactly which door each one opens. Having managed WHSmith since Roadchef’s acquisition, Nick is admired for his deep knowledge, reliability, and unwavering pride in his work. His passion for the business is clear: “I’ve loved every stage of my journey with Roadchef,” says Nick. “The company’s values, ethics, and my brilliant WHSmith team make it a truly special place to work.”
Rebecca Gray’s story began at Magor three decades ago, when a 15-year-old Becky was hired by Nick himself as a table clearer. Her natural aptitude and strong work ethic soon saw her progress to catering supervisor, where she ensured customers received exceptional service and regularly supported other departments to keep operations running smoothly. Recognising her leadership and organisational skills, Becky transitioned into an administrative role and, by 2019, had become Administrator for both Magor and Pont Abraham.
Becky has been instrumental in streamlining site processes, improving efficiency, and supporting her colleagues through both day-to-day operations and larger business changes. Known for her approachability, warmth, and willingness to help others, she is a true pillar of the Magor team. “It’s been an incredible journey,” Becky says. “Working at Magor has given me lifelong friendships, and I’m proud to have grown alongside such a supportive and dedicated team.”
Tim Gittins, CEO at Roadchef, commented: “Nick and Becky embody the spirit of Roadchef: loyal, passionate, and driven by a genuine care for their colleagues and customers. Together, their 75 years of service represent an extraordinary contribution to our Magor site and to the wider Roadchef family. We’re proud to celebrate their achievements and thank them for their continued commitment.”
