Welsh Water begins major work to improve the town's drinking water supplying February 2008 which will cause temporary disruption to many of the roads in Ross. Mike Lynch and Henry Briscoe of Welsh Water told Councillors at Monday's meeting of Ross Town Council that the work would be carried out in two phases. Mike Lynch said "We would like to build local views and opinions into our plan. There will be an exhibition at the Larruperz Centre on January 16th when the whole construction team will be represented." Henry Briscoe explained that they have designated the two areas of work as Goodrich and Ross Town. "There will be a major impact on traffic movement at Morrisons, with 4 way traffic lights for two weeks." He said a plan at would be on show at the Town Council office. "The plan will show a breakdown of the streets we will be working on." Councillor David Ravenscroft asked about the state of the roads after the work is done. "Will you put what you dig up back in a reasonable way?" Mr Briscoe assured him that the road would be in a better state afterwards. He said that Phase 1 which is in the centre of town would take 16 weeks from mid-February. Councillor Phil Cutter said:?"This major impact in many areas is for the drinking water. At least we are getting some investment from Welsh Water into Ross, and I hope we get on alright." Mr Briscoe said that they were just completing the job in Ledbury and they were aware of the importance of the tourist trade in Ross, that was why they were doing the town centre first. Councillor Jenny Hyde said:?"I represent a rural area on Herefordshire Council and the quality of Welsh Water's repair of the roads has been exceptional, so I hope it will be the same here in Ross."
