EMERGENCY services from across the county were called to Monmouth after reports that a body had been seen in the River Monnow.
Traffic on the A40 dual carriageway was brought to a complete standstill, and was piled back for miles, when a car overturned.
The police were called to the incident and then a further report was received about a body being seen in the floods-swollen river.
Ambulance and fire personnel joined SARA in the hunt for the body, but eventually the operation was abandoned.
