Rescue crews standby in the village of Skenfrith as the River Monnow rises to its critical 4 metre level.

SWFRS crews from Malpas are getting ready for an 11am peak of the river with rescue boats standing by should the river overwhelm the village.

The border village fell victim to its worst flood in living memory in November 2025 when Storm Claudia brought intense rain which saw every house in the village flood for the first time.

Calls have been repeatedly made to the authorities for a solution to the flooding but all that has been promised so far by Natural Resources Wales is bespoke flooding prevention measures for individual houses with a promise to view each house by March of this year.
