SIR,

I wish to express my thanks and appreciation following my retirement from Monmouth Town Council, to all my colleagues and staff past and present, for their friendship and support over the last 25 years.

Though many might not believe it, I was quite humbled and touched by the council's presentation of the Past Mayor's Medal.

Sue James and Jane Lloyd, the stalwarts in the office, have been an invaluable asset to me, as were my fellow members on the planning committee, of which I was proud to be the chair.

I must also thank the residents of Drybridge Ward for allowing me to represent them for all these years. I have always tried to do the best for them and my town, of which I have been proud to have been Mayor on two occasions.

Thanks again to everyone. I shall miss the camaraderie and friendship of my fellow councillors, but I think it is now time for others who care about Monmouth, to step up to the plate.

I will have plenty to keep me busy, though I have come to realise that perhaps retirement is a job for a younger person.

Following my recent marriage to the lovely Evemarie, I must thank everyone for their good wishes.

I have also become the chair of the Waldbronn Twinning Association. So having given up my position as a town councillor, I am still going to be kept quite busy.

We are expecting a large delegation from Waldbronn on 27th July this year and we need to raise funds to finance their visit.

We are grateful for the support we have received from the town council and we are presenting a concert 'The Rhythm of Life' featuring The Narth Singers and Osbaston Junior School Choir in the Savoy Theatre on 18th May at 7.30pm, admission £5.

Tickets will soon be available from DS Music and the theatre, and on the door on the night, or by phoning 01600 714357.

Richard Bond
