Residents, families and staff had a treat last Friday when an ice cream from Whippy Tee was arranged as part of the Summer Fete at Euroclydon Nursing and Residential Care Home.

The home was formerly a hotel but has been operating as a care home for over 40 years. The Home's director, Ram Mahendran, said "What a pleasure to see the smiles on residents and staff faces when that sound of an ice cream van could be heard and all the ice creams were gifted by the owners.

“We have had something of an Indian summer and while the weather didn't hold out it didn't dampen spirits. “This marks our first month of ownership and we will now embark on a substantial refurbishment plan to ensure our residents have the best possible facilities as well as care".

Mr Mahendran owns Euroclydon as well as Whitchurch House as part of his commitment to the local area. 

Euroclydon Nursing Home, based in Drybrook, changed hands after more than 30 years' of ownership. The new operator has links to the nearby area. Euroclydon caters for nursing, residential and dementia care and has 41 bedrooms.

Ram grew up in Abergavenny, just across the border, where his father, Dr Mahendran, has a doctor at Neville Hall hospital. Ram said on the acquisition, which completed on 5 August 2026, "I am delighted to confirm the investment in this much-loved local nursing and care home. Following our acquisition of Whitchurch House, which is just 10 minutes away, we are well on the way tom forming a group of homes in the area to provide the best possible care for our residents. We are building on an excellent legacy of the previous owner, who is retiring, and look forward to working with the registered manager and her talented team.
