MONMOUTH Rotary will be running its annual bonfire and firework display on Thursday 5th November. The event will be held in the field next to the Rowing Club off Old Dixton road. The gates open at 6pm with the fire being lit by the Mayor Graham Pritchard at 6.30pm.
The firework display will start as the fire dies down with a volley of rockets soaring into the sky. This will be followed by a fantastic show which will be even better than last year with spectacular effects and colours.
The preparation for the event starts many months in advance to ensure that the display and bonfire will be safe for all while providing excellent viewing.
The Rotarians lighting the fireworks have all attended a special training course at Pains fireworks near Salisbury. There are a number of organisations that need to be informed that the event is taking place such as the Fire Service, Police and Monmouthshire County Council. Monmouth Rotary is grateful for the support from the town council and the Rowing Club who own the fields and the co-operation of the farmers who graze stock there, also St John’s Ambulance who attend in case of any medical needs.
The wood is donated by Island Steel of Newport and help is given by a local farmer to off load the wood and build the fire along with Rotarians the day before so that all will be ready for the 5th.
The display costs £4,000, but despite the rising costs Rotary have decided to keep the entry prices the same as previous years at £6 for an adult, £3 for children and £15 for families (2 adults and 2 children) which is great value. The event is part of Rotary’s service to the town but it also raises money which is donated locally to charitable organisations supported by Rotary.
All are welcome on the night which promises to be fantastic.
