REDBROOK'S St Saviour's Church is set to benefit from a £35,400 Government grant to help repair its roof.

The church's successful application to the Listed Places of Worship: Roof Repair Fund means it is one of 27 churches in Wales to benefit from a share of £1.6 million.

Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osbourne has included St Saviours in the first round of announcements, which aims to help churches across the country repair their roofs.

The money will meet the costs of urgent repairs to the roof and rainwater disposal systems. It can also be put towards structural investigations, specialist reports and bat surveys – all crucial parts of the repair project.

This will make the church watertight and safe to remain open, keeping the structure and any pieces of art inside from getting damaged.

The money comes from a recently increased wider funding package of £55million to 502 historic places of worship across the UK. The fund is administered by the National Heritage Memorial Fund on behalf of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
