Chepstow School pupils achieved 'record-breaking' GCSE results last Thursday (21st August). The school celebrated as 70 per cent of students acheived five or more GCSEs including English and maths, an improvement of 10 per cent from last year. Pupil Emma Ford received outstanding results with five A*s, four As and a distinction in additional maths. She said: "I put in a lot of revision for the exams. "My family have been very supportive. I'm going into sixth form to study maths, biology and chemistry. "I'd like to study medicine in university if I get the grades." Mum Karen Ford said: "Her results are fantastic. She worked so hard and she deserves them. "The results are also credit to the teachers." Sam Ward juggled moving countries with sitting his GCSEs and was pleased to earn three Bs and eight Cs. He said: "I found studying and moving quite stressful. "I actually went away on holiday and came back the day before one of my exams. "There was a mix up at the airport and it took ages to find our car. I was worried I wasn't going to make it back on time to sit my music GCSE. "We made it, I sat the exam and got a B." Sam will go on to study music technology at a Portsmouth college. Year 9 pupil Lisa Griffith received an A* in French and last year earned an A* in Spanish. Students who display exceptional linguistic skills are encouraged to sit their GCSEs in years 7, 8 and 9. "I'm so pleased with my results," said Lisa, "It means next year I can take more subjects, subjects I wouldn't have been able to take had I not sat my exams early." Headteacher Claire Price said: "These results are record breaking and reflect the hard work of our students. "I am absolutely delighted with such an excellent set of results."
