RAGLAN resident Mrs Sylvia Price has received a letter of commendation from the South Wales Fire Service's Chief Officer for her quick and determined action when a fire broke out at St Cadoc's Court, Raglan, last October.

Mrs Price was Deputy Warden at St Cadoc's, a sheltered housing complex, when a fire broke out in the early evening of October 12th.

On hearing a fire alarm sounding from her house opposite, Mrs Price went to investigate. Discovering the presence of smoke coming from behind a locked door of a first floor flat, she went back to the main lobby to ensure that the Fire Service had been called.

Returning to the flat, Mrs Price discovered the front door open and the occupier, Mr Daniels, attempting, to extinguish a chip pan fire. By this time the flat was heavily smoke logged. Mrs Price helped in extinguishing the fire and assisted Mr Daniels to leave the flat, escorting him to the main lobby.

A report of the incident states: "It is clear that Mrs Price acted with great determination and if it were not for her actions, Mr Daniels would have suffered more serious injuries."

Mrs Price received her letter of commendation from the Chief Fire Officer Brian Fraser at a special awards evening at the South Wales Fire Service Headquarters in Pontyclun.
