RAGLAN School will receive a new building following funding approval from the Welsh Government.

The decision was brought to the Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) meeting last Thursday (21st November) with the Welsh Government's decision supported by councillors. Councillors agreed that the work should commence in 2013/14 with a view to completing the school by September 2015.

In a report published on primary school education Raglan Primary School was identified as a priority. The review stated that the infant building had timber rot in the external walls that required immediate expensive attention, or on-going annual costs. It was stated that the energy use was poor and the maintenance levels were generally high.

£4.5 million of the project costs will be funded 50 per cent by the Welsh Government with MCC required to fund £2,250,000 from a combination of capital receipts and prudential borrowing.

Councillor Liz Hackett-Pain said: "It is good news that the Welsh Government has supported MCC for a new school at Raglan."
