THE annual Devauden Races are taking place on 7th May and already the entries are up on 2017, but numbers are limited.

All the family can take part. There is a 60 metre dash especially for children 6 years and under. For those who are 7-10 years there is a 2.4k race, and if you are over 11 years or an adult the 5k race might be just the challenge you need.

There is a 10k team race of any number, male or female aged 15 or over, with the first three across the finishing line determining the team’s placing plus a 10k individual race open to 15 years and over.

If the course record is broken there is a £100 prize for the winning male and female taking part in the 10k race, if neither record is broken the money is donated to the Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA), which provides emergency and first aid cover for the events, and the Hood Memorial Hall.

The record stands at 36.05 mins for men and 39.54 mins for women and the races are timed by chip technology.

If the 5k course record is broken, which stands at 21.18 mins for men and 23.18 mins for women, there is a £50 prize for the winning male or female.

Both course record races are sponsored by Paul Fosh Auctions.

The races take place in and around Chepstow Park Woods, an area of outstanding natural beauty. It’s all off road with a course that uses the trails through trees and tracks.

Special medals will be presented to all competitors over seven years old and the race winners will receive a wooden trophy in the shape on a tree produced by the Design and Technology Department at Chepstow School. The wood has been donated by Chris Worthy an ex-Chepstow pupil and MD of Monmouth Timber.

The event is affiliated with Welsh Athletics through Spirit of Monmouth Running Club.
