A national trade body is urging householders in Wales to put safety first when redecorating their homes.
Hard to reach places such as stairwells and high ceilings can pose a risk to DIY enthusiasts, say experts at the Painting and Decorating Association (PDA).
The Association is urging people to call in a professional painter and decorator to ensure a quality finish – and to avoid household accidents.
PDA Chief Executive, Neil Ogilvie, said: “Trained, experienced and insured painters and decorators, such as members of the PDA, have access to our Health and Safety Handbook app, which gives them easy access to the latest information and regulations.
“They will also have the know-how to use ladders safely, as well as having the necessary tools and skill to reach into the most awkward spots in the home.
“People risk injury when using unstable ladders and working from height requires adequate safety training.
“For peace of mind, and a quality finish at a reasonable price, we always recommend using a painting and decorating professional, such as a member of the PDA.”
PDA members must fulfil membership criteria and adhere to a Code of Conduct which ensures they are trained, experienced and insured.
The Association provides its members with a host of information both through the Health and Safety Handbook app and its website, as well as training through a variety of providers on topics such as working at height and assessing risk.
