SIR,
I am writing this letter as I am wondering how many other people are getting nuisance, malicious or unwanted marketing calls.
These seem to be on the increase and can be very annoying.
I have been receiving malicious calls from a particular person and have reported the incident to the police, who required us to ask our service provider to trace the calls as the number is being withheld.
The service provider, after five calls and a one hour wait, told us that they cannot trace telephone calls, but can charge us for stopping withheld numbers.
This is odd as BT can trace calls, but we are unable to catch the caller.
If you would like to stop unwanted marketing calls you can register with The Telephone Preference Service at http://www.tpsonline.org.uk">www.tpsonline.org.uk, which filters out many calls.
There also seems to be a telephone scam about problems with computers.
People will call and ask you to sit at your computer and give them vital information.
You should never disclose any personal information and should not engage in conversation with them.
Dial 1471 to see if a number comes up, keep times and dates and report it to the police.
I hope this helps anyone else who is in a similar situation to myself.
If anyone has any other ideas I would like to hear them.
