Monmouth Town Council's Community Affairs Committee is asking jobseekers to submit their views about the facilities currently available to them in Monmouth.

Since the town's dedicated Jobcentre closed in February 2007, the only non-internet assistance available to jobseekers in Monmouth itself comes via a single telephone in a corner of Monmouthshire County Council's One Stop Shop in Priory Street.

Critics of the current facilities have argued that a telephone is a poor substitute for face-to-face assistance, lacks privacy, and can be a source of distraction to people making enquiries at the adjacent County Council desks.
