SINCE the closure of The Trekkers some years back, the village of The Narth has been without a pub.
However, now six members of the village have teamed up and started their own pop-up pub at The Narth Village Hall, The Glade Tavern.
Opening on the first Friday of each month, the Glade Tavern will see its doors open for the third time next Friday 1st April, and is already a great success within the village.
The Tavern team, Nikki, Shane, Taryn, James, Jo and Nathan, all local ‘30-somethings’, have built their own bar using old pallets, sourced a beer pump to pull traditional real ales, plus selling a selection of wines and spirits – all enabling the village hall to be transformed into a ‘pub’
“In addition to raising much-needed funds for the village, bringing people from the village together over a drink, we are also very keen to ensure we support local business by sourcing as many of the products as possible from the local area – Real Ale from Kingstone Brewery Tintern, pork scratchings from Hancocks in Monmouth and now we are working with Trellech Stores to source wine and lager. With increasing local support, we hope the pub continues to be a success” said team member Nikki Godfrey.
There are two aims for the pub night, to bring the local community together and to raise money for the village hall and local services. All profits go directly back into village funds.
Stephen Coppell from The Narth Village Hall committee adds: “The monthly Glade Tavern was the idea of some of our newer residents, and it’s been a huge success, thanks to all their hard work. For the villagers it’s been great to get together for a chat over a drink in very pleasant surroundings. And with all the profit going to the village hall, that means we’re now able to support an even wider range of village activities.”
