A 33-inch miniature Shetland pony has today (Wednesday 12th October) made its way to the Senedd to raise awareness of an anti-neglect petition.
The Society for the Welfare and Protection of Horses (SWHP) are calling on the Welsh Government to stop the neglect and abandonment of horses by enforcing microchipping legislation more effectively.
The petition, which has more 2,000 signatures, was started by the SWHP, which is concerned that too many abandoned, neglected and injured horses cannot be traced to an owner because they are not microchipped.
Legislation states that all foals born after 2009 must be microchipped and the petitioners want the law to be enforced consistently.
The petition wasdue to be handed in to representatives from the Assembly's cross-party Petitions Committee at 12pm.
