A PETITION to ‘Save Monmouthshire from Abolition’ was met with overwhelming support at Usk Show last Saturday (12th September).

Nick Ramsay AM has called on residents to protect the title of Monmouthshire following Welsh Government proposals to abolish it in favour of an old-style Gwent authority.

Mr Ramsay now intends to take the petition, which received hundreds of signatures, out and about around the county.

Nick said: “Crowds flocked to sign the ‘Save Monmouthshire from Abolition’ petition.

“I was delighted to be inundated with people wanting to sign the petition. This demonstrates the huge amount of opposition to Welsh Government proposals to abolish Monmouthshire and return to an old style Gwent-type authority.

“I will be taking the petition out on to Monmouthshire’s high streets in the coming months so that everyone who wants to sign it will get the opportunity to show their support to save Monmouthshire.”
