MONMOUTHSHIRE will go to the polls for the second time in five weeks on 8th June after a General Election was called by Prime Minister Theresa May.

The county covers two Parliamentary constituencies with electors in Caldicot, Magor with Undy and Rogiet voting to elect their MP in the Newport East Constituency and the rest of Monmouthshire voting for the Monmouth constituency.

The standing Member of Parliament for Monmouth constituency is David Davies who was elected in 2005. In the 2015 General Election he won 23,701, and nearly 50 per cent, of the votes, increasing his majority.

Labour candidate Ruth Jones was closest, with 12,719 and 26.8 per cent of the vote.

At the last election UKIP candidate Gareth Dunn took 4,942 votes, Liberal Democrat candidate Veronica German took 2,496, Plaid Cymru candidate Jonathan Clark took 1,875, Green Party candidate Christopher Were took 1,629 and English Democrat candidate Stephen Morris took 100 votes.
