LEADER of Monmouthshire County Council (MCC), Peter Fox is one of 12 names on a list of Welsh Conservatives seeking to become south east Wales regional candidates for the 2016 Welsh Assembly elections.
Welsh Conservative members are being balloted this week, to decide on who will top the list.
This follows a meeting in Usk Conservative Club in early October, when two Conservative AMs were de-selected for automatic re-election as candidates for the south east Wales region. The two AMs were William Graham and Mohammad Asghar.
In the last election, Mr Graham and Mr Asghar were number one and two on the list of candidates, respectively. They were elected when the Welsh Conservatives won two regional seats in South Wales East.
The two AMs are now on the list of 12 names alongside Cllr Peter Fox. The result of the ballot will be available later in November.
It is unclear how an AM candidacy would effect Cllr Fox’s county council commitments. When contacted, Cllr Fox declined to comment.
