RECENT visitors to Monmouth, and those that use Chippenham Mead every day, will have noticed its growing litter problem.

It is not unusual to see the entire field strewn with all sorts of litter ranging from polystyrene trays to smashed glass.

A number of readers have mentioned the litter to the Beacon including nine-year-old Morgana Robbins, a pupil at Overmonnow Primary, who sent in the following letter;

"While I was walking my dog on Chippenham Mead this morning, I sadly noticed that there was a lot of rubbish and broken glass all over the grass and pathways.

"While I realise that people must have a place where they can have their picnics and social gatherings, it would be rather nice if they could clear up the rubbish and bottles after them and place them in the bins provided or take it away with them.

"It must also be remembered that this piece of grass is also used as a sports field and broken glass would be a danger to players.

"While I take my dog for a walk on the Chippenham, I make sure that I pick up any mess left behind her."
