Llangattock Ploughing Society has raised £1,000 for two local causes from the proceeds of their annual vintage tractor road run. Around 70 tractors took to the country lanes around Llantilio Crossenny and neighbouring parishes last July to raise money through entry fees and a bucket collection. The proceeds were donated to Cross Ash Under 5s Playgroup and Usk Rural Life Museum. A cheque of £500 was presented by the President of the Society, Frank Sutton, at the A.G.M., to Mrs Sarah Giles who received the cheque on behalf of Cross Ash Under 5s. Mrs Giles said: "We are very grateful to receive such a large sum of money which will be used to buy a sandpit and to revamp some of our old equipment." The second cheque for £500 was presented to John Evans of Usk Rural Life Museum who said they were very pleased indeed to receive the donation. "Funds are always needed to maintain our exhibits and fund our educational activities." The presentations were followed by the Society's Annual General Meeting at which 36 members were present. New officers elected:- President: Frank Sutton, Chairman: David Jones, Vice-Chairman: Brian Edwards, Treasurer: Ray Bowen, Secretary: Julie Jenkins, Domestic Secretary: Eileen Williams, Membership Secretary: Jeff Preece, Publicity Officer: Arthur James and Safety Officer: Alan Howells. In concluding the meeting, retiring Chairman, Bryan Carter said that he had thoroughly enjoyed the past two years; he thanked all the members and supporters for their help and wished the new Chairman, David Jones, every success over the next two years. The next event is the hedging match on Saturday 3rd February at New House Farm, Newcastle, plus a hedgelaying practice / training day will be held this coming Sunday, 28th January.
