SIR,

St James' Church in Wyesham will soon be having its annual gift day.

However, in addition to the return of gift day envelopes, the local PCC are keen to receive residents' comments and suggestions about how they see the role of a parish church in the 21st century.

Our vision for St James is not only as a centre for Christian witness and spiritual welfare by continuing to provide the traditional services (weekly services, weddings, baptisms and funerals) for the parish, but also as a focus for a range of new activities in the locality.

What we would like to hear from people is what activities or services could be offered using the building which at present costs over £200 per week to keep open.

Each church has to pay its own way and the costs of maintaining our church and graveyard are a heavy burden for the regular congregation who are not getting any younger.

So, people of Wyesham, please read the letter you will be receiving, give as generously as you feel able to, but most of all please accept our invitation to a coffee morning at the church on Saturday 24th September between 11am and 4pm.

We would very much like to meet you, listen to your comments and ideas and to thank you for your support.
