PLANS for a football fanzone in Chepstow for the 2016 UEFA European Football Championships have been scrapped by police.
Chepstow Town Council were to hold an extraordinary meeting yesterday (21st June) to discuss the set up of a fanzone to celebrate Wales’ achievement of reaching the knockout stages of the ongoing tournament. The fanzone would have included a large TV screen on the High Street at Beaufort Square, and would have been set up on 25th or 27th June so fans could watch the Welsh national side play in the second round of the championships.
However, the plans were dashed by Gwent Police who stated that there was not sufficient notice provided. With events of this scale needing up to six months in advance, it was decided that the fanzone would not be a possibility and the meeting was cancelled.
