A COMMUNITY photo competition will launch on Friday (19th May) to celebrate the redevelopment of the hall in St Thomas’ Square.

As previously reported by the Beacon the hall will be renamed the Ty Price Hall after the much-loved former vicar of Overmonnow Reverend Norman Price. After substantial refurbishment work, the newly-named hall will be available for use by the whole community.

The photography competition, titled ‘Wow Overmonnow’, will run from 19th May until Monday 19th June. The categories include ‘Place and Nature’, ‘People and Animals’, ‘Fun and Quirky’, and ‘Young Photographer’. Entrants are welcome from all over, but submitted photographs must be taken in Overmonnow.

First prize is £50 cash, and other prizes donated by local businesses include a high quality A4 print of your photo by Drabble and Co, six bottles of wine from Goldwire Stores, and a bottle of Chardonnay from Kings Fee Spar.

Local photographer Emma Drabble from Drabble and Co will lead the panel of competition judges.

The best photographs will be chosen as the basis of an exhibition about Overmonnow, which will form part of the Ty Price Hall’s re-opening celebrations in July.

Ty Price Hall will have an enlarged main room seating up to 60 people, three smaller rooms and brand new facilities. Plans are being made for the re-opening of the hall at the end of July although fundraising is continuing for the equipment and furniture for the hall.
