MADAM,
Mr Clarke's letter concerning pheasant shooting suggests that he either knows very little or is being deliberately mischievous.
I can assure your readers that there are no holes being dug in the Monnow Valley to bury shot pheasants. Contrary to Mr Clarke's assertions the pheasants we shoot are not only edible but delicious and nutritious, being low in fat and high in protein (nor any trace of antibiotics!).
At a time of the year when many of your readers will shortly be getting fed up with turkey, may I suggest that they ask their local butcher/game dealer about this excellent and cheap alternative.

Secretary, Upper Cwm Shooting Syndicate.
