MONMOUTH Assembly Member Nick Ramsay is renewing his calls to the Welsh Assembly Government’s Petitions Committee to prioritise the resurfacing of the A40 between Raglan and Abergavenny.
The Assembly’s Petitions Committee in Cardiff is due to meet on 13th September to consider the petition which was submitted some weeks ago.
The petition outlines the campaign from local residents for the old concrete surface of the A40 between Abergavenny and Raglan to be replaced with modern ’whisper tarmac’ to reduce noise levels for properties near the busy trunk road.
The campagin as been running for more than eight years with residents being told the works were a priority as far back as 2013 and rebuffing a recent proposal to install a noise barrier alongside part of the A40.
AM Nick Ramsay said: “I have been campaigning alongside local residents for over eight years for the concrete road to be resurfaced.
“Recently the Welsh Government advised that a fence would be erected to help reduce noise rather than proceeding with replacing the road surface.
“Understandably, constituents are very unhappy about this, and consider that as the concrete surface is nearing the end of its life it should be replaced with modern tarmac as originally planned.
“I agree with them, and as this is one of the last remaining stretches of concrete trunk road in Wales it’s about time resurfacing was carried out.”
