A PETITION urging Monmouthshire County Council to address the current traffic flows on Hereford Road in Monmouth has been presented to County Councillor Richard Roden.
The petition has over 750 signatures and campaigners claim this demonstrates the depth of feeling that changes are needed to improve safety and assist traffic flow on Hereford Road adjacent to and just above Monmouth School for Girls.
“We are asking the county council to have another look at the road” said Glyn Edmunds, “and redesign the yellow lines to address the traffic flows”.
This long standing and complex issue was robustly discussed with Cllr Roden and the pros and cons of various possible changes aired, including the need for some additional double yellow lines. Following the meeting at the Shire Hall, the possibility of a brainstorming session with Year 12 and 13 girls at Monmouth School for Girls was also raised, and this is being explored.
A previous survey by residents did not seem to have been acted upon and so the petitioners clearly hope that this will form a strong piece of evidence that the council can act upon to help ease congestion.
The residents thanked Cllr Roden for a very constructive and informative meeting and he confirmed the petition will be handed to the chairman of Monmouthshire County Council at the next full council meeting.
