SUNDAY was the perfect day for Monmouth Bowls Club's Finals' Day. The weather was excellent, sunny with a slight breeze provided ideal playing conditions. The number of supporters who came to watch was most encouraging and apart from other bowlers, they included family members and other visitors.

It was especially pleasing to welcome Mrs Ivy Shaw together with Alison, Jamie and Alan and also Roger Whitehouse with his wife.

Play commenced at 1pm, with two games - the Bernard Shaw Trophy, presented by Mrs Shaw and family in memory of Bernard Shaw, and the handicap. Proceeds from the day will be donated to Cancer Research.

The remaining four games - the Championship, the Pairs, the Over Sixties and the Novices began at 3pm. To avoid one player having to play three games on the same day, the two woods were played on the following Monday.

A special thank you goes to Len Davies, Competition Secretary, who made all the arrangements for the competitions throughout the season and who made sure Finals' Day was such a success.
