AN 82-year-old man from the Cardiff area has been killed in a road traffic collision on the A449.

Police were called to the southbound carriageway just before the Usk slip road at around 3.30pm yesterday (25th June).

The collision involved one vehicle - an orange coloured Renault Captor and there were three men from the Cardiff area in the car.

An 82-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and specially trained officers are supporting his family at this time. 

A 79-year-old passenger and the 80-year-old driver were taken to hospital and both are stable.

The road was closed in both directions following the collision.

Gwent Police is appealing for information following the incident.

East Area Support Unit Inspector Lee Ford said: "This is a busy stretch of road with lots of traffic on it at the time. It's a distinctive vehicle so I would hope that someone would have information that could help us .

"I would ask anyone who witnessed this incident to contact us, if they haven't already, or anyone who saw this vehicle beforehand to call us on 101 quoting log number 334 25/6/15."
