THOUSANDS OF POUNDS worth of damage was done to the pavilion on the town sports ground last weekend.

Between 8pm on Friday and 2.30am on Saturday, the pavilion's toilet block and boiler room were subjected to a sustained attack by what must have been at the very least a small group of individuals.

Downpipes on the outside of the building were ripped off, and concrete paving slabs were broken up and then used as projectiles.

Three windows were broken, despite being protected by metal grilles, and the door to the boiler room was seriously damaged. Fortunately, the boilers themselves were unscathed.
