Ross rally ace, Paul Gunter, with co-driver Stuart Willliams competed with the debut drive of Paul's new Escort RS, on last weekend's Woodpecker Stages.

The immaculately prepared car had only done 20 miles of testing prior to the event. The duo were using the rally as a test as both crew members admitted to being a little rusty. But apart from an overshoot on stage 3, the BG Landrovers/County Marquees backed machine finished 60th and 7th in class.

"I've got a few little problems to iron out, but that is to be expected with a new car, but its so much better than my old one," said Paul. "I was so rusty, I could do with doing the event again tomorrow."

Karen Watts was out again, this time with Alun Roberts, in the Forest Trading Post Peugeot 206. This was yet another trouble-free run and more silverware for the popular lady co-driver, as the duo finished 39th and 2nd in class.

"Alun drove really well today, we got quicker with every stage," said Karen. "Our only drama was when we got stuck in a carnival procession in Knighton on the way to stage 4. I think people thought we were in the carnival."

Damian Cole had Paul Morris back on the notes in the Get Connected Hyundai Accent WRC. He had a somewhat disappointing day by his standards, finishing 7th overall. But he scored another good haul of Welsh Championship points and now is odds-on to retain his Welsh crown.
