A PROPOSED Traffic Order could see a total ban on parking in Priory Street outside Iceland and the Market Hall.
A report authored by Paul Keeble, Traffic and Network Manager for Monmouthsire County Council (MCC), will propose to ban all traffic and create a loading bay outside Iceland, and two disabled bays.
The report identifies the current restrictions, which allow for Blue Badge holders to park for up to three hours on the existing single yellow line, as one of the reasons for congestion and “severely restricts the available roadway, forcing oncoming traffic in both directions to have to operate an informal give and take system.”
It continues: “Non Blue Badge holders have also regularly been observed ignoring the single yellow line parking restriction and leaving their vehicles there. Officers have identified a lack of a suitable loading only area for heavy goods vehicles within Agincourt Square and the proposals seek to provide such a loading bay for all HGV deliveries including those to the Iceland store.”
The report concludes “to prohibit parking by all vehicles (including Blue Badge holders) at peak times on the existing single yellow line within Priory Street and Agincourt Square and this can only be achieved by prohibiting loading and unloading and parking by all highway users (including Blue Badge holders) at peak times and days.”
A decision will be made at Cabinet on 24th February.
Further details of the proposed order comprising a plan, statement of reasons for proposing to make the order may be examined during normal office hours at County Hall, The Rhadyr, Usk, NP15 1GA and the council’s One Stop Shop at the town library in St James' Square.
