Painting provides pathway from Monmouth
ARTIST Louise Giovanelli’s rise from Monmouth Comprehensive School to art galleries across the United Kingdom has been swift and continues to trend upward.
Ms Giovanelli grew up in Monmouth, before moving to moving to Manchester to pursue her artistic career after finishing at Monmouth Comprehensive School in 2011.
By 2015 she had finished her B.A. in Fine Art at Manchester School of Art, a pathway which is providing fruitful. Ms Giovanelli said:
“I have just opened up two exhibitions and have another two later this year/next year. The first in Salford (Manchester), the second is in Blackpool and they will run for the next two months.”
The opportunity to have your work consistently displayed can be a rare one, but it is one which Ms Giovanelli is thankful for, she said:
“It has given me a lot of momentum and I feel very very privileged to hit this sled of interest.”
Painting is Ms Giovanelli’s discipline and recently she has been focusing working with historical pieces of art.
“I do paintings, figurative oil paintings. Recently I have been responding to pre-existing historical paintings.
“I go around galleries and take snapshots of what I find interesting, not whole articles but details that are interesting to me. The idea is refocusing people’s attention to things that will otherwise might not notice.”
This current run of exhibitions should keep Ms Giovanelli busy for the immediate future but she already thinking about what may lie beyond that. She said:
“After this I’m hoping to do a residency, finish these shows and then go somewhere in Europe and do something completely different. The gallery at Manchester and they have been helpful so far and are helping me with that as well.
“Hopefully that will bring my work to an international context and reach a wider audience.”
