The Welsh Government has proposed temporary traffic restrictions along the A465 trunk road between Abergavenny’s Hardwick Roundabout and the Welsh border to accommodate upcoming maintenance work.

Taking effect September 16, 2026, the order will introduce overnight road closures from 8.00pm to 6.00am through September 30. During these hours, all non-emergency vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians will be prohibited from using the stretch. The road is commonly used as the main route between Abergavenny and the city of Hereford.

Reduced speed limits of 50mph, 40mph, and 10mph will also be enforced, with a strict no-overtaking rule applied during convoy-guided operations where necessary.

Motorists will follow a signed diversion route utilizing the A465 northbound to Hereford, the A49, A4137, and the A40 back to Hardwick Gyratory. The legal order will remain valid for up to 18 months as a contingency measure for potential rescheduling or additional maintenance needs.
