Sir,
It seems that the majority of traffic now coming into Wales via the Old Severn Crossing A48M and coming off at the Chepstow exit will have only one lane to enter Wales.
The authorities have dedicated the left-hand lane to the minority of traffic using the industrial estate.
On the roundabout road markings (hatching) have been painted and will put traffic on a collision course with anyone attempting to use the left-hand lane to turn right.
Now we all know that you take the right hand lane to turn right on a typical roundabout but this one has two major routes to Chesptow and Thornwell, both right on the roundabout.
So to keep a steady flow of traffic into Wales we need to use both lanes and filter.
As summer approaches and the traffic increases it follows that as there will be only one lane open to traffic entering Wales, this is obviously going to create major traffic disruption, with queues backing onto the motorway (A48M) which is likely to result in incidents and accidents.
What ever the reason for the new layout I would suggest they revert back to the original layout and erect a sign asking drivers to FILTER.
I would urge MDC to seriously consider this option before it's too late and someone gets hurt.
