IT'S been over a year since we spoke to a man whose passion lies within creativity, having been recognised for his bespoke hand lamps that have reached the hands of many celebrities.
What started off as a hobby for Ben Price, Co-owner of Creates in Monmouth has only continued to grow over the years.
All hand lamps are bespoke to each person he makes them for and after sharing ones he makes online, it captures even more attention and has only continued to flourish having made around 500 now.
“The main thing that has changed is that the orders have gone up,” said Ben.
Orders are continuing to grow and according to Ben, Russell Kane is one of them and he is hoping to make one for Ant and Dec for their podcast.
“Last week I met Mel C to give her a lamp to celebrate her new album, Sweat,” said Ben.
“Alan Carr one is still my favourite and the David Attenborough one to celebrate his 100th birthday.”
But this isn’t the first time local bed and breakfast bistro owner has captured praise for his work. Both Ben and his partner Kenny, also Co-owner of Creates appeared on TV series Four in a Bed and were winners on their series.
Still pursuing their business on Monmouth’s historic Church Street, serving customers in Creates, in his spare time creating hand lamps is something he is really enjoying to make, and so popular he has had to protect the business legally patenting the lamps as they are shared so often online.
The idea was sparked after Ben had a conversation with a friend whilst he was working as an engineer on a quiete night shift. Using his background as an engineer and studying at art school to working as an interior designer, the skills blended have created a unique craftsmanship special to him.
