The BBC's One Show 1000 will pass through Monmouthshire on 23rd and 24th March as part of the show's fundraiser for Sport Relief.

The One Show 1000 is a nationwide relay that is set to begin in the Isle of Mull on 16th March, travelling across the country with each holder of the baton running for one mile, before passing over to the next.

1000 participants are needed to keep the relay going, and it was mentioned on the BBC show last week that Monmouthshire in particular was low in the number of people applying to take part.

All you have to do to join in is visit:

and fill in the online form. Dates and times are flexible and the chosen runners will be notified by this Friday (9th March).

Matt Baker from the One Show said:

"We are trying to create the biggest relay ever, but we need runners all the way down.

"It is only a mile and it is a great thing to be part of. It is a chance to be part of something monumental"

This huge relay will travel through Scotland, over to Belfast, down through England before entering Ledbury on 23rd March.

From Ledbury the relay will pass through Ross-on-Wye and then Monmouth.

Using Monmouth as the gateway to Wales, the journey will then head across to Newport and Cardiff, and then return through Newport and Langstone to Caerwent and Chepstow before heading over the bridge to Bristol.

"I'm from just up the road so I know Monmouthshire well, it's a special part of the country," said Alex Jones, pictured. (Image by Adam Jacobs)
