AN experienced cricketer and former head coach of Welsh Fire has given Monmouth Cricket Club’s male and female coaches a masterclass on spin bowling.

Mark O’Leary, who teaches the art of leg-spin bowling, delivered a brilliant session in which he provided outstanding tips to Monmouth CC’s coaches.

“The session with Mark was fantastic and will help us in our aims to deliver the best quality coaching to our players,” said Gareth Jones, a Level 2 coach at the club.

O’Leary, who is attached to Sudbrook Cricket Club, has played for the MCC and Glamorgan Seconds, and runs his own coaching business.

His session follows on from the top-notch batting masterclass that Richard Jones, from Newport Fugitives, gave to Monmouth’s coaches earlier in the summer.

Meanwhile, Monmouth’s members are looking forward to a sell-out end-of-season awards dinner at Drybridge House this Friday (September 16) from 7pm.

The evening has been spearheaded by club member Becky Townsend and it promises to round off a very encouraging and positive second half of the summer.

And, following that, all current, past and prospective members are invited to the cricket club’s AGM on Monday, October 17.

The annual general meeting will take place at Monmouth Rugby Club from 7pm.
