SIR
In response to David Davies's letter in last week's Monmouthshire Beacon, entitled 'Public purse'.
While none of the points in my original letter were refuted, David Davies's response served to remind me that content free communication, the smoke screen and thinly veiled personal attacks continue to be the 'stock in trade' of today's career politicians.
I would also like to thank him for the opportunity to remind people that we have a county councillor that was elected in good faith as a Conservative, who two weeks after being voted in, declared himself an Independent. We also have a Welsh Assembly Member (AM) who is near the top of the AM's expenses league and claimed circa £13,000 to furnish a flat in Cardiff, even though he lives 45 minutes away in Raglan.
In both of the above cases I expressed my views directly to the people involved. I even invited our councillor to my house and requested that he stand for re-election, he declined.
However, your letter was absolutely correct in one respect, I am bloody angry at the way Monmouthshires elected representatives conduct themselves; I have every right to be.
Walter May,
Llandenny
