I wish a speedy recovery to Sylvia Gilbert on her recent illness and congratulate her on her letter in the Beacon in which she gave much needed, timely praise to the hospital and the NHS on the excellent treatment she had received - sentiments with which I thoroughly agree and support.
Congratulations are also due to our local Health Board for running its local office after Nye Bevan who, as Minister of Health and Housing, headed the team which ensured the NHS was established on a firm footing, despite great opposition from the Tories and doctors' organisations.
There is much sniping at the NHS coming from all directions and not enough praise and support.
There is room for improvement and a greater interest shown by the general public.
We must ensure its future in the way it was first established.
