MADAM,
Regarding the idea of having a gate or barrier at the King's Fee end of St Thomas Road to be used only if the flood situation should make the Rockfield Road area cut off, Field House Farm Estate, through which St Thomas runs, has many OAPs living here. We have children from tots to teenagers, also we do not have any amenity play area for older children on this estate. The play park for younger children is at King's Fee which is in a deplorable state, completely litter strewn, and a play park in Drybridge Park.
I feel should the proposal to open up the road go ahead the next step would be to open it permanently.
I like many other residents choose to live here for the fact that, as this is a no through road, we do not have a problem of drivers racing through the estate, but having said that following the so-called Watery Lane improvement it was decided that the whole length of St Thomas Road should have traffic calming in the form of speed ramps, these being laid within two weeks of our road being re-opened following the completion of Watery Lane.
If it was thought an estate of 161 houses with no through road needed these measures at present, please, whoever may think that opening up permanently in future is the answer, forget it.
I have yet to actually get any information as to which councillors came up with the idea. Cllr G Witcombe has been active regarding this, but is not the councillor for this area. Please it would be helpful if those councillors who are representing this area let us know what they feel on this one.
