MADAM,
I think there are several points that everyone can agree on with regard to the playground on Chippy.
Firstly, no one wants any loss of green space in the centre of town. I hope we can all agree that Chippy should be enjoyed by a wide range of people including sports groups, dog walkers, sunbathers, and families with young children. I’m sure we can also all agree that children need safe, accessible and attractive places to play.
No one wants the money available to be wasted. If the existing site was upgraded many families would continue to be put off by its location - at the wrong end of Chippy for parking, shops, and cafés – in a hidden corner under the shadow of the dual carriageway. The lack of natural surveillance would continue to be an issue.
I trust that on 1st February Monmouthshire County Council will agree on a solution that yields the greatest good for the greatest number of people and gives Monmouth a playground everyone can be proud of.
