A GROUP of fundraising Magor brewery workers are limbering up for the weekend when they will be taking part in the Admiral City of Newport Half Marathon.
A total of 14 staff from the AB InBev brewery in Magor will pull on their running vests and trainers to pound the streets in Newport in aid of St David’s Hospice care.
Brewery running group leader Caroline Nelson, the sole female in the Magor team, encouraged her work mates to take part in the annual fund raising event.
Finance manager Caroline said: “As the weeks have gone by a real competitive edge has developed between the various members of our team.
“We’re all raring to go and are looking to raise as much money as we can for St David’s Hospice Care.
“We have set ourselves a target of raising £5,000. If we do then we will be able to give the hospice £5,000 from the brewery and a further £5,000 to Hospice UK from AB Inbev which is being very supportive and has pledged to double whatever we manage to raise.”
Tania Ansell, of St David’s Hospice Care, said: “We’re thrilled that the InBev team at Magor are ready and raring to take part this year.
“I’m looking forward to welcoming them all back after they have completed the Newport Half.”
The Admiral City of Newport Half takes place this Sunday (6th March). It starts at 9am from Commercial Street in Newport, before heading off in a circuitous route to Caerleon and back to finish at the Riverfront Theatre, Newport.
Opened in 1979, Magor is AB InBev’s largest brewery in the UK and makes some of the world’s top-selling beers including Budweiser and Stella Artois.
It produces kegs, cans and bottles across six packaging lines and brews approximately 792 million pints of beer per year.
